I've gotten dozens of comments about Phoenix Slides, mostly positive, but apparently people are really bothered by the icon. Check it out:

...But it has the worst icon ever, is it your intention? What did you think during the creating of this nightmarish icon?

I noticed that some people didn't like the icon. I love the icon. It's a bit like a Rorschach test :-) It's got my vote over those other two any day of the week. Just because there is a fashion for transparency effects and 3D bubble/blobs doesn't mean that we can appreciate a nice flat 2D icon.
Here are some alternate icons, which you should feel free to use (click to download).
INSTRUCTIONS: After downloading and unzipping, click on the icon in the Finder, then do a Get Info. Click on the icon at the top left of the Get Info window and copy it. Then do a Get Info on Phoenix Slides and paste the icon there.

Here's what I have to say about the icon. I am not a graphic artist. I put the current icon together in a desperate sort of way using AppleWorks. Frankly, I thought the fire turned out rather nicely, though the bird could use some work. Ideally, it would be nice to have a phoenix in front of one (or maybe three) slides, vaguely like the old Curator icon, but with a bird instead. Most importantly, the phoenix has to be red with a golden beak, like Fawkes (from the Harry Potter books), since that's where the inspiration for the name came from.
