I've gotten dozens of comments about Phoenix Slides, mostly positive, but apparently people are really bothered by the icon. Check it out:
I'm not sure what to say about the icon :-)
...But it has the worst icon ever, is it your intention? What did you think during the creating of this nightmarish icon?
the logo is quite ..... old skool ehe.
Sorry, for this good software, its icon look poor.
...Terrible looking icon though. Haha.
I would like to change the app's icon (incase to get first impression when I show it to somebody else.)
Phoenix Slides es gratuito, universal y libre, aunque también tiene el icono más horrible que ha existido en toda la historia de la humanidad...
On the other hand, some people like the icon:
Hey, I totally dig your icon for Phoenix Slides! Its a great program with a great icon. Please keep up the good work.
I noticed that some people didn't like the icon. I love the icon. It's a bit like a Rorschach test :-) It's got my vote over those other two any day of the week. Just because there is a fashion for transparency effects and 3D bubble/blobs doesn't mean that we can appreciate a nice flat 2D icon.
Here are some alternate icons, which you should feel free to use (click to download).
INSTRUCTIONS: After downloading and unzipping, click on the icon in the Finder, then do a Get Info. Click on the icon at the top left of the Get Info window and copy it. Then do a Get Info on Phoenix Slides and paste the icon there.

(by me, for comparison)
Here's what I have to say about the icon. I am not a graphic artist. I put the current icon together in a desperate sort of way using AppleWorks. Frankly, I thought the fire turned out rather nicely, though the bird could use some work. Ideally, it would be nice to have a phoenix in front of one (or maybe three) slides, vaguely like the old Curator icon, but with a bird instead. Most importantly, the phoenix has to be red with a golden beak, like Fawkes (from the Harry Potter books), since that's where the inspiration for the name came from.http://www.hp-lexicon.org/bestiary/fawkes.html
